Healing Our Nations

Healing Our Nations (HON) is the only Indigenous-led HIV/AIDS program in Atlantic Canada. Operating under the Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq, HON serves all 33 First Nation communities and off-reserve populations through culturally grounded education, prevention and awareness.

Guided by the communities we support, we provide respectful programming on HIV/AIDS and related issues, including healthy sexuality, STIs, hepatitis (A, B, C), and co-infections.

Free workshops for First Nation communities include:

  • HIV 101
  • Hep C 101
  • Sexually Transmitted Blood-Borne Infections
  • Healthy Relationships
  • Naloxone/Narcan Training
  • Harm Reduction
  • Substance Misuse
  • Information Booths (health fairs, pow wows, community events)
  • Smoking & Vaping
  • Menopause
  • Sharps Safety & Disposal
  • Sex Over 50

Additional supports:

  • Cultural Awareness Workshop for non-Indigenous organizations who serve Indigenous folks. Host 
  • Youth Peer Mentor Training
  • Peer Mentor Training for Indigenous people living with HIV and/or HCV
  • Youth & Elder Gatherings
  • Free condoms and harm reduction supplies distributed to all 33 First Nation communities.
