Our Leadership

Board of Directors

Currently, five of the 13 Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia are affiliated with UNSM, representing approximately 60% of the registered population in the province.

The Board is composed of both voting and non-voting representatives, as outlined in the UNSM bylaws.

Non-Voting Members

The voting members are the Chiefs from UNSM-affiliated communities:

In addition, the bylaws allow for additional non-voting representatives from larger Mi’kmaw communities, such as Eskasoni, to support regional coordination and engagement.

Board Meetings & Governance

The Board of Directors meets four (4) times per year, providing guidance on strategic priorities, governance matters, and collaborative initiatives across member communities.

Through these meetings, the Board ensures accountability and supports the implementation of programs and services that strengthen Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia.
